resume work on my resume

Today I was looking through all my old coursework from college, trying to find the titles of three papers I presented while an undergrad for which to update my résumé (resumé, resume, I just learned how to insert the accented e with a macintosh).  It was a happy jaunt down my academic memory lane.  Oh, the days when I wrote ridicculously titled papers (such as "Stamp a Grand Yes on the Forehand of Eternity" or simply, "Oh Yes!")--that's what we were taught in school: make a good title.

This afternoon I opened my Etsy shop for the purpose of selling some of the things I make.  Right now I just have one item for sale but will be adding more things in the next few days and weeks, including custom orders.  I have no illusions that I'm going to be able to quit my day job or anything, but see this venture as a continuation of doing something I really like to do and sharing it with others.

Return of the Robot Drummer

Perhaps you remember the robot drummer (or actually it was playing a xylophone last we saw it).  Well, it's back!  Playing a drum!  With an accompanying robot virbaphonist!  Here's the duo at the official opening of the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology.

Here's a video of the ZooZ Mobile app ZooZ Beat, for iPhone and Symbian.  I guess maybe you can't get it for Symbian yet as I previously stated.

Mark's company, ZooZ Mobile, just launched their stuff.  There's a computer game controller for iPhone and you can get ZooZ Beat, a really cool music making app, on their website (Symbian only right now).  Here's a picture of Mark working on it:

Out of the Bag Business

I've quit my job in plastics! And start my new job Wednesday. Yea!

Ode to My First Job

As a sophomore in high school I got my first real job at the food court, at a place called Petro's. Some people call what we served "frito pies," that is, Fritos and chili and toppings. I made one of these tonight for dinner and they are just as good as I remember when I was fifteen (and sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen). I was also thinking about how progressive Petro's was at the time. I think it was the only "restaurant" in the food court that served vegetarian food that wasn't pizza or french fries. I'm also getting nostalgic for the days when I only worked 15 or 20 hours a week most of the time, and my boss was really cool, and I could exchange my company's products for cookies or ice cream or photo development.

Ghosts!

I worked late tonight and was the last person in the office. I had gone to the bathroom to rinse out a mug and was walking back through the dark hallway up to my desk and the front door. I saw my reflection in the window as I was walking into the room, and even though I knew it was me, even though I thought, "that's me"; I was really scared.

Northern Europe!

Well, as most of our avid readers probably know, Mark and I are in Copenhagen right now. It's much cooler than Atlanta, a welcome change from the horrible August weather we were enduring there. My hope is when we return the summer heat will be almost over.

We have come for ICMC (International Computer Music Conference) because Mark was presenting a paper and showing a Jazzbot. Below is a video of the robot, not in Copenhagen but at a previous performance, I think at Eyedrum in Atlanta.
