ZooZ VideoZ

Here's a video of the ZooZ Mobile app ZooZ Beat, for iPhone and Symbian.  I guess maybe you can't get it for Symbian yet as I previously stated

You can see this video on their website but I just want to point out the cool catchphrase Mark came up with at 1:01.  Here's a picture of Mark working on the catchphrase:

Sonic Generator

Monday was Sonic Generator's first performance of the season. I think this may have been the best I've seen. Mark created an audio-reactive video piece for "Ossi di sappia (Cuttlefish bones)," a work by Marco Nardelli for flute that includes audio-reactive computer sounds. Jessica Peek Sherwood is the flutist (or flautist, if you'd prefer) that he's been working with on the piece. It was very well performed, and the video turned out great! Here is Mark, hard at work:

The best performance of the night was "Observations," composed by Tristan Perich. For this piece, the ensemble received a package from Perich containing six car speakers and a $40 circut board. The circut produces electronic sounds with no dynamics, there is either sound or no sound. Accompanying this are two crotales (skillfully played by Tom Sherwood and John Lawless) which all together combine to create a really rich (and loud) listening experience. It was thrilling.

If you're interested in seeing Mark's video in action, you should come to the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology Open House tomorrow from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Couch Building.

Musics

So tonight, even though we both had a little too much fun at Mark's Mexican-themed birthday dinner ("what happened to all the beers and tequila?") we went to see some sacred harp or shape-note singers at the EARL. It was really nice.

Speaking of the EARL, Nomen Novum is appearing there at the special request of Sunset Rubdown this Wednesday. If you go you can buy the 7" and get one of these pins I made.

P.S., I was going to do another post with ratings for our Mexican dinner but I don't feel like doing all those sombreros. Let's just say it was "good."

musics I like

I Belong to This Band has long been a favorite of mine (especially Marlborough 228). I am kind of in love with scared harp am thinking about going to some singings. Maybe you would like to go with me sometime?

Today I got the copy of The Langley Schools Music Project that I ordered. I heard about this and sacred harp from NPR which makes me think I should give them money during their pledge drive so I can get the "I heard it on NPR" travel mug. Anyway, I've been thinking about the Langley School music for a while, and I finally bought the CD, and am glad. I thought it might be one of those things that is really not as good as I think it is going to be, but that's not the case. At least, not yet.

I didn't realize that the Langley Schools were in British Columbia. After learning this and seeing Destroyer the other day, I'm thinking about moving to Vancouver.

Also today at work a hawk flew into our front door; we suspect it was chased there by a mockingbird. The hawk was okay.
